The new wave of marketing tools
Five jobs that did not exist three years ago, eight that did and grew an AI button, and how to tell which one you are being sold.
Of the thirteen jobs marketing tools are sold for, five could not exist before generative AI: making video ads with synthetic actors, auto-clipping long video into shorts, answer engine optimisation, creator marketplaces that pay by verified views, and generating ad creative in volume to test. The other eight are jobs marketers have always had, now done with a model attached: outbound, SEO, listening, drafting, retention, influencer, social growth and ad research. Both are worth paying for. Only the first five are new, and knowing which you are looking at tells you whether to expect a new capability or a faster version of something you already do.
Which marketing tools could not exist before AI?
Five jobs, and each one is a capability rather than a speed-up. If you removed the model from any of these the product would not exist in a slower form, it would not exist at all.
AI video ads · synthetic actors from a script
Paste a script, pick a face, get a UGC-style ad in minutes. There was no slow version of this. Six tools listed, from free to a few hundred a month.
Clipping · long video into shorts, chosen for you
The cutting was always possible by hand. Picking which forty seconds of a two-hour stream will travel is the part that is new, and it is why these tools have virality scores. Six tools, all in the under-fifty band.
AEO · getting cited in generated answers
A job that is roughly two years old, because the surface it optimises for did not exist before. Six tools listed, and free command-line options if you bring your own keys.
UGC marketplaces · paying creators by verified views
Creator marketing is old. Paying only for the videos that perform, measured automatically, at a volume one person can manage, is new. Nine tools, including contest and managed models.
Ad creatives · variations in volume, to test
The constraint on paid social used to be budget and is now how much creative you can produce. Generating fifty variants to find the one that works is a different activity from designing one ad.
Which ones are older jobs with AI added?
The other eight: outbound, SEO, social listening, social drafting, retention, influencer, social growth and ad research. All of these were jobs with tools before 2022, and all of them got materially better with a model in them.
That is not a criticism, and the distinction is not about quality. An AI SDR writing a first line that references something real about the recipient is a genuine improvement on a mail merge. It is still cold outbound, and the thing that determines whether it works is still whether the message is specific, which is a human judgement the model does not make for you. The reason to know the difference is expectation setting: with these, you are buying leverage on work you already understand. With the first five, you are buying a capability you may not have a use for yet.
How do I tell them apart from a pricing page?
You mostly cannot, which is why the categories on this site are sorted by the job rather than by the technology. Three questions get you most of the way there.
Would this product exist without the model?
If the answer is "yes, but slower", you are looking at leverage. If it is "no", you are looking at a new capability. Both fine, different expectations.
Is the AI in the output or the interface?
A tool where the model produces the deliverable is a different purchase from one where the model helps you navigate the tool. The second is often a chat box bolted onto a dashboard.
What is the unit of pricing?
Products built around a model price per unit of output: credits, videos, minutes, emails. Products with a feature added price per seat. The pricing model is the honest signal, and it is the one nobody thinks to obscure.
Not yet
- Buying a new-capability tool because the category is new. Five of these did not exist three years ago and you may not need any of them.
- Assuming AI-native means better. An older category with a good tool beats a new category with a bad one.
Good to know
What are AI-native marketing tools?
Tools whose product would not exist without a generative model, as opposed to established products that added AI features. By the count on this site that is five of thirteen job categories: AI video ads, clipping, AEO, creator marketplaces paying by verified views, and ad creative generation.
What is new in AI marketing tools for 2026?
The newest genuinely new job is AEO, getting cited inside generated answers, which is about two years old as a category. The fastest moving is AI video, where synthetic actors went from obviously fake to good enough for hook testing inside two years.
How many AI marketing tools are there?
Nobody has a defensible total for AI-native specifically. ChiefMartec’s 2026 landscape counts 15,505 marketing products overall, up 0.79 percent, with 1,488 added and 1,367 removed. This directory tracks 71 purpose-built ones across 13 jobs, which is a curated subset rather than a census.
Does it matter which kind I buy?
Only for setting expectations. Leverage on a job you already do pays back immediately and predictably. A new capability may not have a place in your marketing yet, which is a question about your stage rather than about the tool.
This expands the Treeline camp on the climb, which lays out the stages either side of it. Tools by job are on the route index, the free ones are here, and the other answers are in insights. Updated 30 July 2026.
